• As mentioned earlier, but perhaps not mentioned with enough gusto: Steel Train. Guys, I know I’m prone to excitedly yammering about bands that actually suck, but there is something honestly huge about their new album. I count at least four singles in the first six tracks, and the rest of the CD is delicious and incredible and YOU SHOULD REALLY PROBABLY GET THIS ALBUM.
• Got home from a long and painful shoot on Monday to find a package containing a vinyl version of Cap’n Jazz’s classic Analphabetapolothology, and a bright red shirt with a delightfully crappy C’J logo on the chest. I heart it so much, I am wearing it right now, I can’t believe I’m going to see them in less than a month.
• I don’t care if there’s a Plumtree bandwagon to get on because of Scott Pilgrim, but they’re a fantastic band. Catchy catchy catchy catchy catchy catchy lotso’fun.
• To see Deadmau5 on Friday, or to not see Deadmau5 on Friday. That is the question.
• Los Campesinos! just made a blog post about how they had to let their drummer (Ollie) go. It’s not explicitly stated (though it might be, I’m not firing on all cylinders yet), but it sounds like they were having trouble with his performance ability. As much as I don’t want to write anything negative about my favorite band, and especially since Ollie seems like one of the nicer drummers on the face of the planet, they’re not far off the mark. All three times I’ve seen them live (WABWAD tour 2009, Lolla 2009, RIB tour 2010), he has been barely able to keep a fast 4/4 by the time the encore kicks off. I know it must suck to have to let an original member of the band go, but… This is a decision I totally understand.
