Wavvvvvvvvvvvves

• The new Wavves album leaked, and my suspicions after hearing Post Acid were entirely accurate. This is nothing short of amazing. Who knew that under fifteen tracks of feedback, compression, and bullshit, we had a genuinely talented songwriter hiding? I’m probably going to listen to this a dozen times before the week is out.

• Reburned the first Pigeon Detectives album for the car CD binder. British indie classic, probably a half dozen smash hits if they played their cards right. Shame their second album was garbage.

• Found a band named Young Sun that I had seen once at Subterranian. Think a slightly more experimental Fleet Foxes (and better for it, I don’t much like FF). It’s a shame they don’t seem to have future plans, because they’re unusually good.

• The Scott Pilgrim movie soundtrack has me excited enough to giggle loudly. Which I’ve done. Maybe thrice so far. I can’t wait for that to drop, cannot freaking wait.

• Somewhat positive on Brothers by The Black Keys. Lacks the singles I enjoy, but makes for pleasant enough bg music. It also makes me wish they’d go back to the guitar/drums combo.

• Had an extended discussion re: the music industry with my dad last night. My conclusion: it’s possible to make money off of music, assuming you give the music away, and sell everything else (tickets merch etc) at lower profit margins that don’t insult the sensibilities of fans. His conclusion: you can’t give away a product that costs money, and that the majors will be able to coast indefinitely until the last dinosaur band (i.e. rolling stones, eagles, et al) stumbles into the tar pits. It’s nice having an intelligent dad who was exactly like me musically when he was my age.

• Seriously guys new Wavves is so good.
